Troop 68 was formed in 1974 at Jamestown Presbyterian Church. Jack Barksdale served as the first Scoutmaster, along with his assistant, Bob Johnson. The Troop consisted of thirty-two Scouts. They met in the current small fellowship hall. Bob Williams served as both the Committee Chairman and the Institutional Representative for Jamestown Presbyterian Church.
Troop 68 has placed a high priority on outdoor adventures for the Scouts. The boys have participated in monthly outings, including backpacking 50 miles along the Appalachian Trail, canoeing 50 miles down the New River, bicycling on the Creeper Trail in Virginia. Cold or wet, frost or snow, the Troop has not been slowed by the weather.
Troop 68 has proudly been represented at National Jamborees, Philmont Scout Ranch, Canoe Base, Summer Camp Staff and Order of the Arrow.
